Early early early access to proof of concept
Howdy!
I’ve been working on this project for over a year and now think it’s an excellent time to continue development in public.
It’s far from complete. I didn’t even start balancing, you still can’t die (on purpose, debugging purposes ;)), you get only one weapon with one projectile, there is only one boss, there are bugs, and there is no loot. Yet.
This game started as something completely different. More like a ‘sequel’ of Benny The Wee Ball. A bigger and more complex sequel. I might write a dev log about it one day (with screenshots and even early game builds ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)). But then Vampire Survivors struck me. And I desired to build a bullet-heaven game. I couldn’t wait so I did pivot the project into what it is now.
The core idea is based on Nephalem Rifts from Diablo 3. You have a fixed time to kill enough enemies to summon a big boss. If you kill the boss within the time limit, you get more loot and a chance to try again on a higher difficulty. If you don’t, you still get something that makes you stronger and you can retry on a similar difficulty.
Some art has been prepared by my lovely wife keysha, some comes from the mighty Kenny, and some is just a mix of them plus mine just to serve as placeholders.
You’re more than welcome to leave feedback and/or catch me on the Dragon Ruby’s Discord server. I’m happy to share code snippets and explain technical details if you’re interested.
Not sure what comes next but stay tuned. Thanks for reading and giving it a shot.
Cheers!
